Notes on Colors
We have tried our very best to accurately represent product colors on this website. However, due to the nature of the recycled plastic we use and electronic media, color of actual products may differ slightly from how they appear on this website on your particular computer. Please request a sample to see actual product color. Call or email us with a good ship-to address and your requested sample will be sent to you free of charge or submit a Color Sample Request.
What kind of material is Loll made out of?
Loll products are made with high-density polyethylene (HDPE), partially recycled plastics like milk jugs and shampoo bottles (#2 plastics) that you take out to the curb every week. Milk jugs are used due to their lack of pigment so Loll’s vibrant colors can be created.
As Loll material contains recycled material, the medium to create the material does inevitably fluctuate. Although we do continuously strive for the best consistency possible, material color and texture may slightly vary from sheet good to sheet good and thus product to product.
Is there ultraviolet (UV) stability in Loll material?
Yes. Loll products are manufactured with a highly weatherable HDPE sheet. Our HDPE includes a superior UV additive designed for plastics that improves exterior durability, greatly reducing characteristic surface degradation caused by sunlight and other UV light sources. Pigments/color concentrates are also added that are formulated with the best weathering pigments available in the market in a particular color-space.
Is color shift covered under warranty?
No. The sun is very hard on materials that have constant direct exposure and we cannot guarantee the material color will not change over time. However, as noted above, the HDPE that Loll uses has a UV stabilizer and is very resistant to color shift. The color is not a finish coat; it is a pigment embedded in the material throughout. The use of harsh chemicals could enhance the effects of UV exposure. Please reference Loll’s care and maintenance guides for proper cleaning instructions. Some pieces use Richlite natural paper composite. Richlite will patina as it weathers and the lighter, natural colored material will redden or turn grayish. Black will remain black for years but with some apparent weathering. You will never have to paint or stain Loll Furniture. Our Warranty.
Will I see any change of color in my product?
The good news is that in most applications probably not. To test color stability, we subjected our HDPE colors to a UV chamber test that accelerates the effects of UV exposure. The test consisted of three samples of each HDPE color. Each color was sampled from the same piece of raw material. One sample was designated as the control (zero exposure to UV testing), the second sample was exposed for 1,000 hours, and third for 2,000 hours in the UV testing chamber.** Upon test completion L*a*b* measurements were then taken and dE numbers were calculated. Comparing the dE numbers shows the color-stable qualities of the HDPE that Loll uses to create its products.
**The results of accelerated UV testing are intended to simulate the effects of long-term UV exposure over an extended period, such as several years. However, the number of hours recorded during the accelerated testing process does not directly correspond to real-time exposure hours. Accelerated testing uses intensified UV light conditions to replicate potential degradation in a shorter timeframe and is meant for comparative or predictive purposes only.
